Mark Schaller is a Melbourne born artist who completed his art studies at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1982.  Today Schaller is regarded as one of Australia’s strongest mid career artists, with a distinctive, vigorous and expressionistic style.

A founding member of Roar Studios, Schaller held his first exhibition at the age of twenty and has since exhibited in numerous group and solos exhibitions both within Australia and internationally.

Known for his constant exploration and testing of the boundaries of art making, Schaller becomes an alchemist creating works that challenge preconceived categories so readily adopted by the art world.

The vibrant colours and clear strong shapes allow the viewer to imagine the world as a techni-colour dream.

“I think that's an important part of painting or works of art, that they have to be humanistic. There has to be a human part in it."

Schaller’s work is in the collections of the Australian National Gallery, National Gallery of Victoria and most regional Australian art galleries.
