George Raftopoulos was born in Sydney in 1972, he has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Sydney, and a Postgraduate Diploma from the Sydney College of the Arts.

Raftopoulos's paintings have always possessed an expressionist fierceness. His canvases investigate memory and travel. Exotic Greek Island beaches, sweeping Australian bush vistas, frenetic New York streetscapes all appear through a visual language that relies heavily on a textured composition of colour, space and line.

Raftopoulos speaks of his painting as “mapping the memory”. Re-enforced by abstracted letters and numeric codes that navigate George’s personal mythology in action he refers to his paintings incorporating fragmentary references to places he has been, events that he has witnessed, and the sensations he has experienced.

Raftopoulos’s work can be found in Hugo’s Lounge, Sydney, Freshwater Place Building Southbank, Westpoint Corporation and the Gold Coast Art Gallery, Queensland to name but a few.
