Australian Artists

Clifton Pugh, born in 1924 is an Australian artist who achieved national and international recognition, best known as a painter of portraits, nudes and landscapes, with a particular passion for Australia and its wildlife. Pugh was also a prolific printmaker, and three-time winner of Australia's Archibald Prize.

Pugh’s work captures the essence of Australia. His development of Dunmoochin and his subsequent residency allowed him to explore the Australian outback, mingling with other prolific Australian artists and developing a sensitivity and awareness that is imperative when attempting to capture the delicate colours, shapes and wildlife of Australia.
